Exact solution of a variety of X-ray probes in the Falicov-Kimball model with dynamical mean-field theory

چکیده
We examine the core-level X-ray photoemission spectroscopy (XPS), X-ray absorption near-edge spectroscopy (XANES) and X-ray emission spectroscopy (XES) in the Falicov-Kimball model by using the exact solution from dynamical mean-field theory. XPS measures the core-hole propagator, XANES measures the absorption of Xrays when the core electron is excited to an unoccupied electronic state of the solid and is not emitted, and XES measures the spectra of light emitted as electrons fill the core-hole state created via some form of Xray excitation. These three spectra are closely related to one another and display orthogonality catastrophe behavior at T = 0. We show an efficient way of evaluating these spectra at finite temperature, with a primary focus on the details of XANES.

Exact solution of the Falicov-Kimball model with dynamical mean-field theory
The Falicov-Kimball model was introduced in 1969 as a statistical model for metal-insulator transitions; it includes itinerant and localized electrons that mutually interact with a local Coulomb interaction and is the simplest model of electron correlations. It can be solved exactly with dynamical mean-field theory in the limit of large spatial dimensions which provides an interesting benchmark...
متن کاملSpectral moment sum rules for strongly correlated electrons in time-dependent electric fields
We derive exact operator average expressions for the first two spectral moments of nonequilibrium Green’s functions for the Falicov-Kimball model and the Hubbard model in the presence of a spatially uniform, time-dependent electric field. The moments are similar to the well-known moments in equilibrium, but we extend those results to systems in arbitrary time-dependent electric fields. Moment s...
متن کاملNon-resonant Raman scattering through a metal-insulator transition: an exact analysis of the Falicov-Kimball model
For years, theories for Raman scattering have been confined to either the insulating or fully metallic state. While much can be learned by focusing attention on the metal or insulator, recent experimental work on the cuprate systems points to the desirability of formulating a theory for Raman response which takes one through a quantum critical point – the metalinsulator transition. Using the Fa...
متن کاملResonant Enhancement of Electronic Raman Scattering
We present an exact solution for electronic Raman scattering in a single-band, strongly correlated material, including nonresonant, resonant and mixed contributions. Results are derived for the spinless Falicov-Kimball model, employing dynamical mean field theory; this system can be tuned through a Mott metal-insulator transition.
متن کاملDynamical mean-field theory for light-fermion–heavy-boson mixtures on optical lattices
We theoretically analyze Fermi-Bose mixtures consisting of light fermions and heavy bosons that are loaded into optical lattices ignoring the trapping potential . To describe such mixtures, we consider the Fermi-Bose version of the Falicov-Kimball model on a periodic lattice. This model can be exactly mapped onto the spinless Fermi-Fermi Falicov-Kimball model at zero temperature for all paramet...
